From the forests of Scandinavia the Normans sailed across Europe, then on to the New World, leaving a legacy of violence, adventure, and enduring social structures. Best remembered for the French region bearing their name-Normandy-and their 1066 conquest of England, the marauding Normans also settled Iceland and eastern Canada. This history includes three episodes: The Invaders, The Kingdom in the Sun, and Loss of Identity.
