This program explores the Victorian Age through its ballads and music: the events, the feelings of Englishmen about God, Queen, their country, war, and love. Music, which not so long before had belonged in fields and inns and courts and churches, moved into the living room, into the middle-class home. Performed in periold costume and style and in appropriate locations, the program re-creates the role of music in post-Romantic England. Performers include Stephen Varcoe and Fiona Kimm, accompanied by Iain Burnside, and the Newcastle Piano Trio. (39 minutes)
